WINDER - City council members approved three land annexations and subsequent rezonings Tuesday night.
The first was a request from Peoples Bank in Winder for property located at 275 N. Broad St. Peoples Bank petitioned the mayor and council to annex .6 acres into the city and rezone it so that the bank can build a new branch.
North Broad Business Park requested annexation and rezoning of .29 acres, also located at 275 N. Broad St., to be used for expansion of the business park. This parcel of land adjoins the parcel annexed and rezoned for Peoples Bank.
The third request came from Blitch Family Limited Partnership with annexation and rezoning of 15.5 acres to be developed into 25 single family residential homes (R-1 zoning).
"I'm glad to see an R-1 request come through. It seems like it's been a long time since we've seen one of these in the city," said Councilman Mike Mingus.
Cab operating license/fees increased
An amendment to the city's "vehicles for hire" ordinance was approved Tuesday night, increasing taxicab license fees from $50 to $100 per vehicle and from $20 to $50 per operator. The investigation fee was also increased from $25 to $50. The amendment also requires taxicab rates to be filed as part of the business license and updated annually.
Cabs must also be insured for property damage for $25,000 now, as opposed to the previous requirement of $5,000 coverage. Background checks will now be performed annually on drivers and upon application for an operator's license.
