Masked, armed man robs Waffle House

•NORCROSS - A man walked into the Waffle House at 6079 Goshen Springs Road on Sunday demanding money from the register.

According to a police report, a black man wearing a mask and armed with a handgun came into the restaurant, jumped the counter and demanded an employee open the register.

Witnesses told police the man pointed the gun at customers and employees before taking money from the register.

The suspect fled north on Goshen Springs Road, taking nearly $500.

Police were able to collect footprints from the scene.

College student arrested,

charged with shoplifting

•DULUTH - A Clark Atlanta University student was arrested Saturday and charged with shoplifting nearly $500 worth of clothes from the JC Penney store at Gwinnett Place Mall.

Ethel A. Mensah, 20, of 67 James P. Brawley Drive in Atlanta was seen by store loss prevention officers allegedly taking clothing from the store without paying.

Officers told police the woman was placing clothes into a zippered bag inside the women's dressing room.

According to a police report, Mensah was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

The clothing was returned to the store.

Old Time Pottery parking lot

•DULUTH - A Norcross woman's vehicle was carjacked and her purse was stolen Thursday while she was attempting to enter her SUV.

The woman was in the parking lot of Old Time Pottery at 3625 Sweetwater Road in Duluth when she was approached by a unknown man who grabbed her purse and struggled with the woman, eventually retrieving her keys.

According to a police report, the suspect drove away in the vehicle, fleeing south on Club Drive.

The suspect was driving the victim's 2003 maroon Chevrolet Tahoe.

The victim escaped without injury.
