LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett grand jury on Wednesday indicted a man who allegedly shot a woman to death and attempted to kill himself.
Nghia Trong Tran, 33, who survived the attempted suicide, is charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the indictment. According to an Aug. 23 press release from Cpl. Darren Moloney of the Gwinnett County Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:15 a.m., in front of a residence at 133 Patterson Close Court in Lawrenceville. Tran's family lived at the residence, but not Tran, Moloney said. Tran allegedly shot and killed Bien Son, 30, an Asian woman from Alexander City, Ala., and turned the gun on himself, Moloney said. The victim's husband was present, and their young son was asleep in the vehicle, but neither were injured in the incident, Moloney said. The husband is identified as 32-year-old Duy Pham. Moloney said the incident was not a random act of violence, as all parties involved knew each other. The circumstances surrounding the incident were not available. Tran is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.More like this story
