LAWRENCEVILLE - A 24-year-old Lawrenceville man died Thursday after being involved in a morning collision.
The collision occurred about 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Old Norcross Road and Winding River Drive in Lawrenceville, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Kevin Dale Casella, who was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle, died as the result of injuries sustained in a collision with a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder.
Moloney said the driver of the Nissan, identified as 66-year-old Hoang Cong Thai of Lawrenceville, failed to yield at a stop sign.
"After stopping at the stop sign, the Nissan failed to yield and turned (left) onto Old Norcross Road, colliding with the motorcycle," Moloney said. "He did come to a complete stop at the stop sign - he stopped and then he continued."
Moloney said Casella was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he later died.
Thai did not require emergency medical treatment at the scene.
Investigators don't believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision, and Thai was wearing a seat belt and Casella a helmet.
Charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing, Moloney said.
