He played basketball at Lawrenceville High School and the team won the N.E. Georgia award in 1928. From those early beginnings, he was absolutely determined to go to Georgia Tech. And he did, selling magazines to help pay for his tuition. For four straight years, he was on the Honor Roll and received the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and President Marian Luther Brittain's Gold T scholastic awards. Graduating with honors in 1932, he majored in accounting and finance and received a B.S. Degree in Commerce. After Tech, he was hired by the State of Georgia and became the Director of Business Administration for the Department of Family and Children Services until his retirement in 1972. He was an active member of Dekalb Lion's Club for several years and served as President for 2 years. He celebrated his 95th birthday in style with a ride around the city of Lawrenceville in the Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech.
