Four cities are holding qualifying this week for council positions. Two will have mayoral bouts this year.
In Norcross, the posts held by David McLeroy, Michael Lovelady and Bruce Smith are up for election. Smith has announced he won't seek another term. In Loganville, the three councilmen whose terms are expiring - Chuck Bagley, Mark Kiddoo and Ray Nunley - have all said they'll be on ballots again, as will Mayor Tim Barron. Lawrenceville City Clerk Bob Baroni said he hasn't heard if David Rodriguez and Judy Jordan-Johnson will seek re-election. Mayor Bobby Sikes said he'll announce his decision on seeking re-election this week. In Grayson, terms are expiring for Post 1's Tammy Shumate and Post 3's Jimmy Adams. Qualifying will be held at the respective city halls from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lawrenceville and Norcross periods will last from Monday through Friday, while Grayson's and Loganville's are Monday through Wednesday. Also, Bethlehem will have to schedule a special election for later this year. City Councilman Dan Wages resigned his post Tuesday. Qualifying dates have not yet been set. Winder will hold a Sept. 19 vote to determine if liquor can be sold by the drink on Sundays. Staff Writer Arielle Kass contributed to this report.
