Gwinnett Daily Post
LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett's 11th Wal-Mart will open its doors in October, while construction has yet to begin on its 12th location.
The Hamilton Mill Wal-Mart Supercenter, at 3506 Sardis Church Road, is scheduled to open its doors Oct. 18, spokesman Glen Wilkins said. The building will soon begin stocking inventory and will get its certificate of occupancy in time for a grand opening on that date. Meanwhile, a Wal-Mart location on Harbins Road south of Ga. Highway 316 is under contract, but the land has not yet been closed on, Dacula City Administrator Jim Osborn said. Once the land is closed on, Osborn said, Wal-Mart must come before Dacula's City Council to approve the plans. He said he expects the store to open sometime in 2008, with construction anticipated to take 10 months. Osborn said Dacula residents are looking forward to the store and the opportunity to shop closer to home. "It will be a nice place for residents on the south side of 316," he said. Wilkins said there are not plans for other Wal-Marts to be built in the county at the time being, but that with Gwinnett's rapid growth, he would not rule out the possibility of a 13th store in the county's future. "We're always looking for new opportunities to better serve the community," he said. "Gwinnett's growing by leaps and bounds."More like this story
