Prep roundup: Brookwood sweeps North and Salem

SNELLVILLE - Brookwood improved to 4-2 on the young season with a pair of sweeps over North Gwinnett (25-20, 25-23) and Salem (25-11, 25-12) Tuesday night.

Kalin DeMarrais led Brookwood with 11 kills and five aces while Abby Kroll served three aces and had 24 assists. Sam MacFarlane also helped with nine kills and two aces.

North (5-2) managed a split on the night by beating Salem 25-16, 25-19. Staci Carnell led the Bulldogs with nine kills while Megan Carnell and Kayla Gridley each served seven aces.


Mill Creek tops Berkmar and South Forsyth

LILBURN - Ashley Vaughan had 44 assists and Kelley Samples delivered 10 kills to help Mill Creek sweep Berkmar (25-7, 25-14) and South Forsyth (25-22, 14-25, 25-20) Tuesday night. Olivia Day also served nine aces for Mill Creek (4-0).

Berkmar also dropped its match to South Forsyth 17-25, 11-25. Tyra Smith served five aces for the Patriots (0-2).

Norcross wins two against Hebron and Lakeside Academy

LILBURN - Norcross upped its record to 3-1 on Tuesday with wins over Hebron (25-9, 25-7) and Providence (25-17, 25-22).

August Rhea helped Norcross with 14 digs while Ainsley Hatten added 11. Katie Dahl chipped in 11 assists while Hannah Nelson had seven aces, seven kills and 11 digs. Tiffany Clarke also played well with five blocks and five kills.

Providence's record stayed even at 2-2 as the Stars topped Hebron 25-13, 25-15. Asheton Ward led the Stars with four kills, four blocks and two aces while Taylor Rogers turned in a solid defensive effort.

Buford wins two over East Hall and Jackson County

GAINESVILLE - Buford picked up two wins Tuesday night by beating East Hall (25-11, 25-8) and Jackson County (25-16, 25-16).

Hallye Jerkins finished with 13 aces and nine kills for Buford (3-1) while Ansley Roper added 12 assists and seven kills.

Shiloh beats Duluth

DULUTH - Shiloh needed all three games to claim its match with Duluth on Tuesday, finally winning it 25-21, 17-25, 25-7.

Shiloh (1-2) was swept in its other match against Walker 18-25, 15-15.

Parkview cruises past Peachtree Ridge and Lakeside

SUWANEE - Caroline Dean set things up nicely for Parkview on Tuesday with 24 assists as the Panthers swept Peachtree Ridge (25-17, 25-17) and Lakeside (25-15, 25-8).

Also playing well for Parkview (6-0) were Maggie Bean (16 digs, 10 aces, nine kills), Audrey Hipple (seven digs, six kills, four aces), Karie Hayden (nine digs, four assists) and Leslie Lewis (seven kills).

Peachtree Ridge finished its night with a 25-19, 25-17 sweep over Lakeside. Playing well for the Lions were Nicole Louchart (eight assists), Lindsay Ajala (five kills), Katie Kjerrumgaard (three digs) and Jasmine Johnson (three aces).

GAC runs its record to 6-0

GAINESVILLE - Alex Shelton had 37 assists and D'Nay Daniels finished with 15 kills as Greater Atlanta Christian beat both Lakeview Academy (25-16, 25-22) and Prince Avenue (25-16, 25-13) on Tuesday.

GAC, which remains unbeaten at 6-0, also received 16 digs and eight kills from Jennifer Godleski and 13 kills and six aces from Ashley Agin.

Collins Hill nips Dacula

WATKINSVILLE - Collins Hill rebounded from a 15-25 opening-game loss against Dacula by winning the last two games 25-18, 25-18 Tuesday night at Oconee County High School.

Alex Olney led Collins Hill (3-3) with 12 kills while Chelsea Proffit added 11 more. Setter Kelsey Foster had nine kills to go along with 24 assists while Joy McCuen led the team with 22 digs. Collins Hill also faced Oconee County and fell in three games 16-25, 25-22, 15-25.


Parkview 1, Marist 0

LILBURN - Summer Rose delivered an infield single in the bottom of the eighth to plate Carrie Ann Bullard on Tuesday to give Parkview a 1-0 win over Marist.

Kelly Croxton (2-0) went eight innings for the Panthers, allowing just two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Jamie Dennis also went 1-for-3 for Parkview (6-2).

Kennesaw Mtn. 2, Grayson 0

KENNESAW - A lightning-shortened game cost Grayson a chance at a comeback against Kennesaw Mountain on Monday night as the Rams were hit a with a 2-0 loss in the Gwinnett/Cobb Challenge.

Grayson was trailing 2-0 in the top of sixth when Shannon Bear singled home Hayley Downs to cut the score to 2-1. Katy Lewis followed by driving in Lauren Mathis with an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2.

With runners at first and second with one out, the game was delayed and eventually called due to lightning. By rule, the game reverted to the last completed inning, giving Kennesaw Mountain the 2-0 win.
