GRAYSON - The Grayson City Council adopted its city code at Monday's monthly meeting.
The codification of the city ordinances had been in the works for several years but has taken this long to complete. "We finally got this thing done, and everything is nice and put together," Mayor Jim Hinkle said. Moments after adopting the new code, the council approved several amendments. "There were some things that didn't make the cut," Hinkle said. "So we have to amend the code." In addition to the bound copies at City Hall, the Grayson Code will also be available online at www.municode.com Council presented with photo, sketch The Grayson Council was presented with a photo and sketch of Main Street from Tim Hall, founder of the Grayson Community Theatre. Hall first brought the idea of a community theater in Grayson before the council more than a year ago. Since that time, Hall has worked with the council to put together performances for Christmas, during the Grayson Day festivities and several other performances at the Arts and History Center. "We just want to thank you for your support of the theater," Hall said. Hall will also be performing at the opening of the Grayson Library and is still searching for a permanent home for the theater. In other business, the Grayson City Council: - Approved the 2006-2007 budget at $1.2 million. This is an increase of $260,000 from last year, with the greatest increase in planning and development costs. - Approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County for the use of inmate labor for public property maintenance. The city will use inmate labor to maintain roadways, cut grass and pick up trash. - Agreed to set up a meeting at Grayson Elementary to iron out problems with pick-up and drop-off procedures at the school. - Announced the Grayson Family Movie night for at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in City Park.
