Former Gladiator Milam signs with AHL Chicago

The Chicago Wolves announced the signing of Troy Milam, a key member of the Gwinnett Gladiators' American Conference championship team, to a contract on Monday.

Milam spent the majority of the 2005-2006 hockey season with the Gladiators, the Atlanta Thrashers' ECHL affiliate, but was under contract with Chicago, the Thrashers' American Hockey League affiliate. The 26-year-old went to training camp with the Wolves last season before the team assigned him to Gwinnett, where he made a big impact.

He ranked second among ECHL defensemen last season with 41 assists and also was fourth in the league with 48 points in 48 regular-season games. In the 2005-2006 playoffs, he had 15 points (on four goals and 11 assists) in 17 postseason games to tie for the league lead among defensemen.

The Lake Orion, Mich., native has 78 assists and 91 points in 127 career ECHL games, which includes two stints with Gwinnett, the 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 seasons. He played for the Reading Royals in 2004-2005.

Milam, who played college hockey at Ferris State, has played in 64 career AHL games with the San Antonio Rampage (2003-2004), the Manchester Monarchs (2004-2005) and the Wolves (2005-2006). He played in two games with Chicago last season.
