Suwanee bank robbed

SUWANEE - An armed man wearing sunglasses and black bandanna over his face on Friday held up the Bank of America at 2800 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The suspect came into the bank shortly after 9 a.m. Friday and brandished a handgun, demanding money, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

"He vaulted the counter after displaying a weapon," said Special Agent Stephen Emmett of the FBI, which is taking over the investigation. "I wouldn't call it a dynamic takeover, but he vaulted the counter."

The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, which he placed in a blue canvas bag. No one was injured in the heist and no shots were fired, Moloney said.

The suspect is described as a black man about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 145 pounds with short hair. He wore a tan baseball cap, tan jacket, black shoes and baggy jeans. Authorities said it was too early to tell whether the man had previously committed any similar robberies.
