GAC adds Cables as new diving coach

Greater Atlanta Christian has hired Herb Cables, who coached the divers on state champion Collins Hill teams in 2004 and 2005, as its new community coach for diving.

In addition to Collins Hill, Cables coached athletes from Duluth, Grayson and Peachtree Ridge at the high school level. He also trained and coached two Olympic qualifiers for springboard diving and managed a top club team, Southeast Xtreme Diving. He previously owned Cables Fitness Company, which offered training, rehabilitation and nutritional care, and now directs Fitness One Senergy Fitness Systems.

This is the first year for a GAC diving team and it coincides with the completion of the school's new aquatic center, which is slated to open in January, 2007.

"Coach Cables is pretty excited and so am I," GAC athletic director Tim Vick said. "Herb is a great addition to our swim staff. He has the reputation as being one of the finest dive coaches around the area. Our swimmers will reap the benefit of his expertise."
