Linder schedules town hall meeting

Politicians are reaching out the people all over Gwinnett.

Today, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson will give the keynote address at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce's Big Expo and job fair.

In his 11:30 a.m. speech at the Gwinnett Center, Isakson will focus on the future of entrepreneurship in America and give an update on events in Washington.

In a week, U.S. Rep. John Linder will also talk about national events, this time a town hall meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24, at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville.

"Town hall meetings are great opportunities for constituents in the Seventh District to come together as a community and share their thoughts and concerns," Linder said. "I hope that the event will be well attended and I look forward to hearing citizens' thoughts and ideas. Communication is a key part of representing Georgia's Seventh District and I am certain the dialogue expressed during Thursday's meeting will assist me greatly."

The congressman said he would answer questions from those in attendance as well as update them on the issues before Congress.

On a more local level, state Rep. Melvin Everson opened a district office to get closer to the people.

"I want to be accessible to the constituents of my district," the Republican from Snellville said. "Many do not have time or want to travel to Atlanta to speak with their representative. By having a satellite office in the district, it offers the opportunity to those that want to meet with me to meet with me in Snellville."

The office, located at 2140 McGee Road, Suite C710 in Snellville, will be staffed with volunteers from local high schools, who may be able to get classroom credit for volunteering, he said.

The phone number for the office is 678-514-2513.
