Prep roundup: Hackett strikes out 16 in Hawks' win

HOSCHTON - Katy Hackett dazzled for Mill Creek to open the season, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 16 batters in a 9-0 win over South Forsyth on Tuesday.

A walk and a hit batter were the only two things that kept the reigning Daily Post Pitcher of the Year from pitching a perfect game.

On offense, Brittany Singer was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Morgan Bullock was 3-for-4 with three runs and Amberlie Saxton was 3-for-4 with two runs for the Hawks, who are now 1-0 on the season.

SOFTBALL

Buford 18, Fannin County 0

BUFORD - Buford opened its season by routing Fannin County 18-0 in five innings on Tuesday. Pitcher Jesse Groves earned the win, allowing just one hit and striking out nine batters.

Ashley Razey had a big day for the Wolves, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run. Whitney Holman was 4-for-4 and scored four runs while Melissa Higginbotham was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

VOLLEYBALL

Parkview rolls past Marietta, Kell

MARIETTA - Caroline Dean had a team-best 23 assists and Maggie Bean had a team-high 20 digs with eight kills, three aces and two blocks as Parkview swept host Kell and Marietta on Tuesday.

The Panthers defeated Marietta 25-20, 25-15 and then dispatched Kell 18-25, 25-23, 25-23. Audrey Hipple had nine kills and a team-high five aces for the victors and Marissa Hicks added a team-high 10 kills and 17 digs.

North posts wins over Providence, Flowery Branch

SUWANEE - Megan Carnell had 13 kills and seven aces and her sister Stacy Carnell added 10 kills as the North Gwinnett volleyball team opened its season with a pair of wins on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs defeated Providence 25-20, 25-23 and then beat Flowery Branch 25-21, 23-25, 25-22.

Providence earned a split on the night by beating Flowery Branch 11-25, 25-20, 25-21. The Stars were led by Liz Crist (seven kills), Casey Macke (three kills, four blocks) and Caroline Adams (six kills, six blocks).

GAC sweeps Brookwood, Grayson

NORCROSS - D'Nay Daniels had 15 kills, 11 aces and four blocks to help lead the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans past Brookwood and Grayson on Tuesday.

The Spartans downed Brookwood 25-15, 25-13 and beat Grayson 25-17, 25-9.

Ashley Agin added 11 kills, Caroline Germany had seven and Alex Shelton had 17 assists for the Spartans, who are now 2-0 on the season.

In the finale, Brookwood defeated Grayson 25-18, 25-21.

Overall, Kalin DeMarrais had seven kills on the night, Sam MacFarlane added six and Abby Kroll had 16 assists.

Hebron splits with South, Mt. Pisgah

DACULA - Hebron Christian defeated South Gwinnett 25-17, 25-10 on Tuesday night but fell to visiting Mt. Pisgah 25-17, 25-23 in the season-opening matches for all three teams.

Lizzie Cohen had 10 aces for Hebron, Jenny Conner had 16 assists and Madelyn Hosch contributed six of her team's 20 kills.

Peachtree Ridge falls to Harrison, St. Pius

KENNESAW - Peachtree Ridge lost 25-8, 25-11 to St. Pius on Tuesday and also lost 25-8, 25-10 to host Harrison.

The Lions were led by Hillary Lietzinger (seven digs, one ace), Nicole Louchart (six assists) and Lindsey Ajala and Jasmine Johnson, who had three kills and three blocks apiece. Brynna Robinson also played a strong all-around game.
