DORAVILLE - Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding an arsonist who set fire to a house under renovation early Friday on Ash Street in Doraville.
A neighbor called 911 at 2:19 a.m. to report seeing smoke and fire coming from the house. Firefighters found a heavy fire burning in the single-story dwelling upon arrival, said Lt. Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department. It took 20 firefighters about an hour to bring the blaze under control at 3:30 a.m., Rutledge said.
Firefighters said it was an older house that was in the process of being renovated by the owner. No one was living there.
Investigators were not releasing any details Friday about how or where the blaze was started, but they did rule it an arson.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Georgia Arson Control offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for arson.
