McCormick race enters 10th year

A Collins Hill tradition turns 10 on Saturday morning.

The Dennis McCormick Road Race will be held at the high school as it has been for 10 years, since it was started by then Eagle cross country coach Matt Johnson. The race was named back then for the late McCormick, who was active in the Collins Hill youth sports community before his death.

The event has routinely drawn 400 to 450 runners each year since the inaugural race in 1997, and it serves as a fundraiser for the Eagles' running programs as well as honoring McCormick's contributions. The races include a 5K at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by an 8:15 a.m. 2K Fun Run.

Shiloh coach Tom Kutter holds the course record in the race while the women's mark was set last year by former Collins Hill state champion runner Natalie Florence, who won't run this year because she's out of town.
