Toddler drowns in family pool

SNELLVILLE - A 20-month-old toddler drowned in a backyard pool Wednesday.

Lt. Chris Stevens, spokesman for the Snellville Police Department, said the toddler, Miguel Delgado, wandered outside of his family's house at 2010 Abington Lane in Snellville and fell into the in-ground pool. The toddler's mother ran outside and pulled the child out of the pool.

At 5:54 p.m. the mother called 911 and told police her son had been underwater for about four minutes, Stevens said. Units from Gwinnett County EMS, Gwinnett County Fire Department and Snellville police responded to the house.

An ambulance transported the toddler to Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Lt. Thomas Rutledge of the Gwinnett County Fire Department said. Stevens said the child died around 7:30 p.m. The incident has been classified as an accidental drowning, he said.
