NORCROSS - Police identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide that included the Friday kidnapping of a young girl.
Vassana Sritavong, 31, was allegedly killed Friday evening by her ex-boyfriend, 49-year-old Hiteshkumar Joshi, who later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department, said firefighters initially responded to a medical call at Sritavong's Norcross home at 4055 Settlers Hill Way about
Friday night, the dead-end street had cars parked on both sides of the road, and a light rain was falling. Neighborhood residents were not allowed to drive down the street, and an officer required them to show identification with an address before allowing them to walk to their homes.
Moloney said Joshi took
4-year-old Katherine Soutavila, who was the subject of a Levi's Call, from the house. Joshi was found on Buford Highway near Langford Road after someone saw the car he was driving - a red Ford Explorer with the license plate AGF 6296 - and called 911.
Officers told Joshi to exit the car after pulling him over, Moloney said, but he pulled out a handgun and shot himself. The girl was not injured and was reunited with members of her family.
Joshi was not related to the girl and did not live at the home.
Police are not releasing how Sritavong was killed, Moloney said, and are not sure of the spelling of Katherine's name.
