Unemployment rates fall

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett's unemployment rate fell below 4 percent in March, as the state added nearly 21,000 jobs, the Georgia Department of Labor said Thursday.

Gwinnett's jobless declined to 3.8 percent, dropping from 4.4 percent in February and from 4.5 percent a year ago.

The Labor Department said metro Atlanta's unemployment rate decreased to 4.4 percent in March, falling seven-tenths of one percent over the past month. Georgia's jobless rate dropped to 4.5 percent.

There was an improving employment picture last month, according to the Labor Department.

An additional 30,452 Georgia residents found work. Georgia also added 20,800 non-farm jobs from February to March, and the state gained 102,700 jobs over the past 12-months.

Most of the jobs were in the trade and service industries.
