DAWSONVILLE - Buford's baseball team scored three runs in the seventh inning, including a game-winning two-run home run from Cory Allen, to rally for a 6-4 win at Dawson County on Thursday night.
Down 4-3 in the seventh, Brandon McEachern (2-for-3) led off with a single and later scored the game-tying run on a two-out base hit by Chase Burnette. Allen followed with the game-winning two-run homer, his second of the game to go with four RBIs.
Burnette pitched four innings of relief to earn the victory and John Macolino added a 2-for-4 hitting day for the Wolves, now 18-4 overall and 14-2 in Region 8-AA.
Mill Creek 5, Centennial 1
HOSCHTON - Denver Stovall and Tyler Walton combined to go 7-for-7 on Thursday in Mill Creek's 5-1 win over Centennial in Region 7-AAAAA action.
Stovall was 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and Walton was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Walton (5-1) also pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, no earned runs and no walks. Mill Creek is now 19-3 overall and 5-1 in the region.
Dacula 6, Norcross 1
DACULA - Bryant Jones went 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Dacula past Norcross 6-1 on Thursday in Region 7-AAAAA baseball action.
Blair Frost, Josh Colsson and Shannon Wilkerson each went 2-for-4 for the Falcons (15-8, 3-4). Jonathan McBryar (6-2) was the winning pitcher in a five-inning, one-hit outing with six strikeouts while David Martin pitched the final two innings for the save.
Chattahoochee 4, Duluth 3
DULUTH - Despite a strong showing from pitcher Jesse Richeson, Duluth lost 4-3 to visiting Chattahoochee in Region 7-AAAAA play on Thursday night.
Richeson pitched a complete-game, five-hitter with five strikeouts and just one walk, an intentional one. Brad Hall led the Wildcats (11-9, 1-5) on offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and all three Duluth RBIs. Teammates Scott Welborn and Andrew Riedel also went 2-for-4.
Union County 1
LILBURN - Providence Christian took care of Union County 12-1 in five innings on Thursday night in a game played at Parkview. Pitcher Andy Vess went the distance for a three-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk.
The Stars (16-7) got a home run and three RBIs from Preston Smith, along with strong games from Michael Webb (2-for-3, double, two runs) and Tyler Johnson (1-for-2, home run, three runs).
Buford 3, North Oconee 0
BOGART - Visiting Buford swept the doubles points and got a victory from No. 1 singles player Ben Hunter to beat North Oconee 3-0 on Thursday.
The Wolves also picked up points at No. 1 doubles from Ryan Martin and Ben Davis, and at No. 2 doubles from Preston Benson and Will Hunter.
Brookwood 3, Chattahoochee 0
STONE MOUNTAIN - Brookwood blanked Chattahoochee 3-0 on Thursday in the first round of the Class AAAAA girls tennis tournament.
The Broncos (14-1) got a singles win from Courtney McLane and swept the doubles points. The No. 1 team of Paige Ivey and Lindsey Peyton picked up a win, as did the No. 2 doubles squad of Nicole Hernandez and Katie Williams.
Grayson 3, Centennial 2
LOGANVILLE - Sonia Anand won at No. 1 singles and Sarah Beth Britt won at No. 3 on Thursday as Grayson opened the Class AAAAA girls tennis tournament with a 3-2 win over Centennial.
The Rams also got a win from the No. 1 doubles team of Brittany Lewis and Whitley Lewis.
