Collins Hill superstar forward Maya Moore received yet another accolade recently when she was named to the USA Today first-team All-American squad.
Moore, who won the prestigious Naismith Award earlier in the month, was joined on the first team by Tina Charles (Christ the King in New York), Jacki Gemelos (Stockton, Calif.), Amber Harris (North Central, Ind.), Monica Wright (Woodbridge, Va.). Charles, whose team defeated Collins Hill in overtime in December and went on to win the national championship, was named the publications' National Player of the Year. Like Moore, who committed to play for UConn two weeks ago, Charles has signed to play for the Huskies. Moore was the only junior of the five first-team members. She averaged 23.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.4 steals and 4.6 assists in leading Collins Hill to its second straight Class AAAAA state championship. Porsha Phillips, of Redan, was selected to the third team. - From staff reportsMore like this story
