LILBURN - Out of 14 finalists, including Amanda Brouillette of Parkview High School, one student was named this year's Georgia State Page STAR student Wednesday evening.
Sameer Gupta, a senior at Bibb County's Central High School, was chosen to receive the honor and Adam Steiner, a senior at Effingham County's South Effingham High School ,was named first runner-up. Brouillette was a competitive contender, and was one of only three finalists to get a perfect score on the new SAT, which now includes critical reading, math and writing sections. Selection was based on scholarship, extracurricular activities, academics, citizenship and leadership initiative. Now in its 48th year, the STAR program has honored more than 20,000 students and their teachers. The statewide program is coordinated and sponsored by the PAGE Foundation. Co-sponsors include the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Education.
