DULUTH - A 21-year-old Norcross man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle accident near Gwinnett Place Mall.
Police said Elliot Kingsley Sloan was driving a 1999 Honda Civic east on Steve Reynolds Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m. Monday when he ran a red light at Venture Drive and struck a 2001 Ford Explorer.
Sloan and the other driver, 28-year-old Nathaniel P. Patterson IV, were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with injuries, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. Sloan died in the hospital as a result of the collision.
Patterson has been treated and discharged.
Moloney said Patterson is cooperating with investigators. The investigation is ongoing, but there was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, Moloney said.
The accident in Duluth was one of two fatal collisions that occurred Monday.
Later that night, a homeless man was walking across Buford Drive near Ga. Highway 316 in Lawrenceville at about 10 p.m. when he was run over and killed by a gray Honda Civic hatchback.
Lawrenceville police still had not released the identity of the victim or the driver by press time on Tuesday.
