LAWRENCEVILLE - A motorcyclist died in the hospital Sunday after striking a sport utility vehicle in a Lawrenceville subdivision, according to police.
Authorities said 29-year-old Sidney Baptiste was driving a 2005 Suzuki CSXR1000 motorcycle on Great Shoals Circle about 7 p.m. Saturday when he came upon a 1995 Ford Explorer that was stopped in the roadway.
It was unclear whether the motorcycle struck the Ford, or if the driver alone slammed into it after losing control and being thrown from the motorcycle, said Cpl. Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Baptiste was not wearing a helmet and at first his injuries didn't appear to be life threatening, Moloney said. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died on Sunday.
The driver of the SUV was identified as 55-year-old Francene Previlon, of Lawrenceville. Investigators said both men lived in the subdivision.
No charges had been filed as of press time Monday.
"It is too early in this investigation to comment on contributing factors and possible charges," Moloney said. "This investigation is active."
