Man arrested in connection with burglaries

STATHAM - Police arrested a man this week in connection with a spate of burglaries in the city.

Barry Leon Peters, 38, was arrested Sunday after police found him walking through the woods carrying 10 DVDs that had been stolen from a Wise Court apartment earlier that day.

Statham police Sgt. Thomas Hinson said four vehicles, two residences and a business were broken into over the weekend. Peters has been connected to the business burglary, at the New Image Hair Salon on Railroad Street about 2 p.m. Sunday, and one of the vehicles.

He was also wanted in a shoplifting at Pat's BP on Atlanta Highway April 14, Hinson said.

The other residence that was burglarized was on Providence Road, Hinson said, and cars were broken into on that road and a Commercial Drive repair shop.

Peters has been charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of entering an auto and one count each of criminal trespass and criminal damage to property in the second degree. He is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center.

Hinson said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.
