Rev. Ray Hewatt, 75, of Sugar Hill, died April 16, 2006. He was a man with an unsurpassable sense of humor, which he used to cheer others. A man after God's own heart, filled with kindness and gentleness; never meeting a stranger. Even greater was his sacrificial love for his wife, Dorothy, and fourteen children. At one time he held five jobs to support them, never asking nor receiving any assistance from any agencies. Hope Road Church of God, where he pastored for 41 years, was known for his anointed preaching and soul stirring singing. His life and ministry continues through all the souls he saw saved, two sons and son-in-law ministers and gospel singing daughters. He was the best of the best of the best. 1 sister, 7 brothers and 1 grandchild preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Savage Hewatt; daughters and sons-in-law, Raylene and Dan Chapman of Dahlonega, Jo Ann and Donald Chapman of Cumming, Cheryl Broome of Dawsonville, Carol and Keith Pritchett of Canton, Charlene Grimes of Ellijay, Jane and David Pritchett of Dawsonville, Jennifer and Jerry Blevins of Auburn, Michelle and Randy Bentley of Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Jerry and Joyce Hewatt of Dacula, Gary Hewatt of Lawrenceville, Keith and Debora Hewatt of Toccoa, Tim and Toni Hewatt, Mark and Teresa Hewatt, all of Cumming, Nathan and Sherry Hewatt of Canton; 38 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
