Rev. Ray Hewatt, 75, of Sugar Hill, died April 16, 2006. He was a man with an unsurpassable sense of humor, which he used to cheer others. A man after God's own heart, filled with kindness and gentleness; never meeting a stranger. Even greater was his sacrificial love for his wife, Dorothy, and fourteen children. At one time he held five jobs to support them, never asking nor receiving any assistance from any agencies. Hope Road Church of God, where he pastored for 41 years, was known for his anointed preaching and soul stirring singing. His life and ministry continues through all the souls he saw saved, two sons and son-in-law ministers and gospel singing daughters. He was the best of the best of the best. 1 sister, 7 brothers and 1 grandchild preceded him in death.
