Youth roundup: Iron Eagles win second tournament

The Collins Hill 12-and-under Iron Eagles softball teamwon their second tournament in a row last weekend.

After taking first place in the NSA qualifying tournament in Cumming on April 1, the next weekend the Iron Eagles went to Anderson, S.C., and won the ASA tournament in dominating fashion.

Team members are: Breanna Buckley, Marianna Curry, Donata Giamboy, Alaina Hall, Alyson Hicks, McKenzie Halstead, Kristen Provost, Anyssa Rubles, Victoria Martinez, and Victoria Webb.

The team is coached by Mike Halstead, Tony Martinez, and Javier Rubles.

BASEBALL

Red Sox win Battle of Big Sticks tourney

The 14-and-under Bogan Red Sox of Mill Creek were champions of the BPA Battle of the Big Sticks tournament in Austell on April 8-9th.

The Red Sox went undefeated in the tournament and defeated Calhoun 12-2 in the championship game.

Team members are: Tyler Clanton, Joey Webb, Jerad Curry, Patrick Lyons, Matthew Grimes, Phillip Bates, Luke Crumley, Daniel Szathmary, and Mark Stanko. The team is coached by Jack Curry, Mickey Bates, Damon Grimes, and Time Clanton.

GYMNASTICS

Priest places third at competition

Nine-year-old Marie Priest of Lilburn placed third in the region with a 36.60 all-around score at the level 8 region gymnastics championships. She also placed second on beam with a 9.325 and third on floor with a 9.275.

Three gymnasts place first in all-around

Three gymnasts from Georgia Gymnastics Academy in Suwanee placed first in the all-around at the "March into Spring" meet at Georgia All Stars gym in Woodstock on March 26.

Caitlin Palanza, 10, placed first on vault, beam and floor and second on bars to win the all-around. Kara Knapik, 12, and Nikki Covalschi, 14, placed first in all four events to finish first all-around.

Chandler Haligas, 8, won bars and floor for a second place all-around finish. Julia Jefferson, 10, placed first on bars and third on beam, floor and vault to place second all-around.

Logan Nugent, 8, placed third all-around. Also competing were Anita Button, Ellie Sheppard, Jill Blackmon and Sara Jones.
