Collins Hill senior Shantell Black, a point guard who helped the Eagles to back-to-back state titles her final two seasons, signed a basketball scholarship on Wednesday with Ole Miss. She is the daughter of Stephanie Mott and Darryl Black.
A four-year letter winner, Black averaged 9.2 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals as a senior for Collins Hill, which finished 31-1 and ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today. She holds school records for most assists in a game (13 vs. Christ the King, N.Y.), assists in a season (175), assists in a career (431) and free-throw percentage in a season (79.0). Duluth's Norman picks Wingate swimming Duluth's Mason Norman signed a swimming scholarship with Wingate University (N.C.) on Wednesday. He is the son of Roger and Pam Norman. Norman, a team captain who maintains a 3.3 GPA, was third at the state high school meet in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 breaststroke to earn second-team All-State honors for the second straight year. He is a member of Duluth's school-record 200 free relay team and has the second-fastest 50 free and third-fastest 100 breast in school history. Panthers' Kenady headed to Kennesaw State Parkview senior Katie Kenady has signed a scholarship to play fastpitch softball at Kennesaw State. She is the daughter of Brian and Cynthia Kenady. A three-year varsity player and two-time All-County selection, Kenady hit .325 with 26 RBIs as a senior and helped the 2003 team to the state semifinals. She played three seasons of basketball at Parkview and lettered for two years. She maintains a 3.4 GPA. South's Lockett to sign with Kennesaw State hoops South Gwinnett senior Gia Lockett will sign a basketball scholarship with Kennesaw State on Monday. Lockett, who scored 1,369 career points, led the Comets to the Class AAAAA title game as a senior and to a 55-8 record her final two seasons. Last season she averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and had a team-best 88 steals. USC-Aiken inks Shiloh's Coward Shiloh senior Lauri Coward has signed a scholarship to continue her basketball career at South Carolina-Aiken. She is the daughter of Hector and Maise Coward. Coward led Shiloh in rebounding at 11.0 per game and was second on the team in blocked shots as a senior. GCSU signs Parkview's Rowland in hoops Parkview senior Ty Rowland has signed a basketball scholarship with Georgia College and State University. He is the son of Dave and Melinda Rowland. Rowland, an All-Gwinnett County and All-Region 8-AAAAA selection, averaged 15.0 points and 6.5 assists as a senior. Grayson's Rhodes to play soccer at Truett-McConnell Grayson senior Stephen Rhodes has accepted a soccer scholarship from Truett-McConnell College. Rhodes, a two-year varsity starter, plays defender and midfielder for the Rams. He maintains a 3.0 GPA. Parkview's Geiger signs with Georgia Southern Jessica Geiger of Parkview signed a basketball scholarship with Georgia Southern on Wednesday. She is the daughter of Jerry and Cherrie Geiger. Geiger, the Region 8-AAAAA Player of the Year as a senior, averaged 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds last season, finishing her career with 1,113 points and 800 rebounds. She also was the county's player of the year in volleyball. Panthers' Veal selects Erskine soccer Parkview senior Josh Veal signed a soccer scholarship on Wednesday with Erskine College (S.C.).
