Woman scammed out of $4,000

•NORCROSS - Someone claiming to be a representative of a prize company convinced a Norcross woman to wire him $4,000 so she could receive a supposed cash prize.

The woman was told she had won $250,000 from Prize America when an unidentified man posing as a U.S. Customs agent called her on April 5. The caller said she needed to pay a luxury tax of $8,500 to claim the prize. The woman sent two payments totaling $4,000 through Western Union to an address in Canada.

She was about to send an additional $4,000 payment when the transfer was stopped by Western Union. The suspect called again several times after that requesting the final payment, but the victim became suspicious when he provided only a limited amount of information.
