George R. and Portia J. Arceneaux of Lawrenceville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a renewal of vows and a dinner celebration. The couple was married April 28, 1956, at Asbury Methodist Church in Franklin, La.
George Arceneaux retired from the military in 1977 after 24 years of service. He later retired as a lieutenant at the sheriff's department in Fayetteville, N.C., in 1999 after 20 years of service.
Portia Arceneaux traveled across the country and Europe with her husband and began a career in education in 1974. She was a kindergarten teacher for American children in Germany for several years, and she retired in 1999 in Fayetteville, N.C., after 25 years of service.
Now retired, the couple enjoys spending time with family and being involved with the church community at North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.
The couple has two sons, Roderick Arceneaux and wife Cynthia, and Greg Arceneaux; two daughters, Michele Hopson and husband Willard, and Pamela Janifer and husband Jason; and six grandchildren.
