LAWRENCEVILLE - Now that the "squeeze" is in place, road crews will shift their attention to Interstate 85 this week.
Last week, the focus of construction on the interchange with Ga. Highway 316 was on creating an earlier merge on Ga. 316 westbound.
"Some have called it the 'squeeze' because we are narrowing from two lanes to one about 1,000 feet sooner on 316 westbound," DOT District Engineer Russell McMurry said. "This will give us the room to build the new flyover bridges that will take traffic from 316 west to either I-85 south or Pleasant Hill Road on our new collector distributor system. The 'squeeze' will be there continually until the new bridges are ready for traffic."
Now, though, crews have to set up for the new bridge over the interstate at Old Norcross Road.
McMurry said the DOT will close one lane on I-85 northbound every day next week.
The inside lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting at Pleasant Hill Road and ending at Ga. 316.
