Cash's five RBIs lead South to victory

SNELLVLLE - Bryan Cash cracked a grand slam and finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs on Friday to lead South Gwinnett to a 7-1 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Lance Whatley and Zac Bui each went 2-for-5 with two runs while Chandler Snell was a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases for South (8-6, 1-1). Brett Teschner was also 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Steven Currie improved to 3-1 on the mound with seven strong innings, striking out five and allowing one run.

BASEBALL

Mill Creek 7, Gainesville 0

GAINESVILLE - Cody Clickner pitched three innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts on Friday as Mill Creek blanked Gainesville 7-0. Clickner ran his record to

6-0.

Matt Tunnell led the offense with a 3-for-3 game with two doubles and an RBI. Jeff Kaczynski and Jeff Bennett each added two hits as Mill Creek improved to 14-2.

Parkview 16, Meadowcreek 1

LILBURN - Parkview's offense forged out 13 hits in four innings as the Panthers (10-4, 2-0) pummeled Meadowcreek 16-1 on Friday.

Craig Brisson was 2-for-3 with a solo homer while Gator Parker was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and his first home run of the season. Scott Steele and Michael Langley each went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

K.D. Kang slammed his fifth homer of the year and drove in three while pitching four innings with seven strikeouts and one run allowed for the win.

Meadowcreek's run came in the top of the third on a solo home run from Miguel Cabrera, his first of the year.

Grayson 10, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Grayson starter Matt Hill pitched a one-hitter on Friday against Berkmar as the Rams blanked the Patriots 10-0 in five innings.

Hill struck out four and walked two as the Rams improved to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAA. Jeff Mitchell led the offense by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Blake Allen and Brad Blalock each added two hits and an RBI.

Peachtree Ridge 8, Norcross 4

NORCROSS - Matt Birkbeck was 3-for-3 with three RBIs on Friday in leading Peachtree Ridge to an 8-4 win over Norcross.

Blake Perry was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Chad Turner added a two-run double as Peachtree Ridge improved to 5-9. Kevin White also went 2-for-4.

Dillon Waters (2-3) hurled a complete game on the mound, allowing three earned runs and striking out 10.

Wesleyan 18, Union Co. 5

BLAIRSVILLE - Tony Plagman and Kevin Ruiz each hit home runs on Friday as Wesleyan blasted Union County 18-5.

Plagman, who went 2-for-3, drove in three and hammered his second homer of the year while Ruiz had five RBIs, going 3-for-4 with his fourth round-tripper.

Chris Jensen was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs for Wesleyan (13-4, 7-2) while Ty Johnson went 2-for-2 and drove in one run. On the mound, Grayson Garvin (5-1) struck out nine in three innings and allowed two runs for the win.

Providence 8, Rabun Co. 1

TIGER - Clayton Thompson of Providence hit his fourth home run of the year and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs as the Stars (10-6, 6-3) knocked off Rabun County 8-1 on Friday.

Joe Hammond also went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs while Preston Smith finished 2-for-3 with a run. Starter Andy Vess (2-0) went four innings in notching the win, striking out six and allowing one run on three hits.

GAC 3, Lumpkin Co. 1

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian starter Brent Burrows threw six solid innings on Friday, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts as the Spartans beat Lumpkin County 3-1.

Taylor Wood pitched a perfect seventh inning to record the save as GAC improved to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in Region 8-AA. Landon Bennett was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Patrick Savage went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

BOYS SOCCER

Meadowcreek 1, North 0

SUWANEE - Meadowcreek held on for a 1-0 shutout over North Gwinnett on Friday in a non-region game.

Gabriel Diaz scored for Meadowcreek (7-4-1) two minutes before halftime on an assist from Matias Sirio while keeper Edwin Baires made the goal stand with 15 saves.

Parkview 1, Mauldin, S.C. 0

LILBURN - Parkview won its fifth straight match Friday night with a 1-0 shutout over Mauldin, S.C., in the Southeastern Soccer Challenge. Parkview will face Hendersonville, Tenn., today at 4 p.m. weather permitting.

Blake Brettschneider provided the one goal for Parkview (8-5-1) on an assist from Cliff Enokekwa. Josh Veal saved eight shots at keeper in recording the shutout.

Wesleyan 3, Whitefield Academy 0

NORCROSS - Wesleyan won its second match of the year with a 3-0 blanking of Whitefield Academy on

Friday night.

Peter Karempelis scored on goal and assisted goals by Matt Waite and Russell Macklin as the Wolves improved to 2-9-2. Keeper Collin DeNoya recorded the shutout with nine saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Parkview 3, Forsyth Central 0

LILBURN - Parkview improved to 11-3 on Friday with a 3-0 blanking of Forsyth Central in the Southeastern Soccer Challenge.

Emily Davis, Megan Geiger and Ginny Leviton each scored for Parkview while Corin Daly and Taylor Jackson each provided an assist while keepers Sarah Kammer and Ashely Baker recorded the shutout. Weather permitting, Parkview will play Kell today at 2 p.m.
