Mrs. Birdie Mae (Bert) Ramey, 86, of 2304 Duncans Shore Drive, Buford, passed away on September 24, 2005. A member of pioneer Gwinnett families, Mrs. Ramey was born in Gwinnett County on October 24, 1918 to George and Cammie Gower Clack. Her grandfather, Robert Macklin Gower, was a veteran of the Confederacy and other ancestors included David Smith and Abel Gower who were heroes of the American Revolution. Mrs. Ramey was a homemaker and was happily married to Cleamon Lee Ramey from 1934 until 1970 when she was widowed. She lived for over sixty years in the Duncan Creek Community during which time she was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where her husband served as deacon. She was predeceased in death by her husband, a brother, Eulen Clack, and sisters Junie Ramey and Ruby Kilgore. Mrs. Ramey was a superb cook and her life centered upon her family and their needs. She was a loving mother to three children and their spouses: Billy and Patsy Ramey, Carolyn Marie and Lavon Hair, and Jean and Dorsey Stancil. She was Mawmaw to the six grandchildren with whom she took so much delight: Kay and David Mauldin, Jody Hail, Mike Hair, Alida and Tom Knuth, Emily Stancil and Andy Stancil. During her lifetime she was blessed with five great-grandchildren upon whom she doted: Nathan Mauldin, Jake Mauldin, Madison Hinckley, Kyle Knuth and Brian Knuth. She was a devoted daughter and sister, loving wife and mother, a beloved Mawmaw, and a friend to all who knew her. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Cedric Banks officiating.
