Prep roundup: Coan strikes out 19 in seventh no-hitter

NORCROSS - Sophomore Jessica Coan struck out 19 batters and pitched her seventh no-hitter of the season as No. 2 ranked Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Pace Academy 4-0 on Thursday.

Stacy Elrod was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Rebekah Osteen had a triple and two RBIs for the Spartans (16-5, 7-1).


Collins Hill 6, Norcross 0

SUWANEE - Senior Michelle Brodrick gave up only two hits while striking out seven as Collins Hill downed Norcross 6-0 Thursday on senior night.

The Eagles (13-5-1, 6-2) scored five runs in the third inning, including two RBIs from senior Shelley Jenkins and one RBI from senior Tamara Perkins. Jessica Martin, Libby Munson and Amber Bailey all added hits in their last home game for Collins Hill.

Allison Klibanoff was 2-for-3 for Norcross (6-18, 3-7) and Kasey Rutkowski along with Nina Iduate added hits for the Blue Devils.

Peachtree Ridge 5, South Forsyth 4

SUWANEE - Jenna Bearden had the game-winning RBI, helping Peachtree Ridge defeat South Forsyth 5-4 in an international tie-breaker on Thursday.

Jackie Samuels pitched nine innings and struck out nine batters for the Lions (17-5, 7-2).

Rhea Taylor was 4-for-4 and Natasha Willemse had a double and two RBIs in four at-bats.

Grayson 4, Parkview 1

LILBURN - Mandy Burns struck out 15 batters leading Grayson to a 4-1 win over Parkview on Thursday.

Lauren Mathis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rams (11-9, 4-2), Melissa Davis had a double and two RBIs while Amber Russell and Amanda Hutcheson both added hits for Grayson.

Mill Creek 2, Chattahoochee 1

ALPHARETTA - Katy Hackett struck out eight batters in a complete-game effort as Mill Creek edged Region 7-AAAAA opponent Chattahoochee 2-1 on Thursday.

Dez Franklin was 2-for-3 for the Hawks (17-5, 7-2) with Amberlie Saxton and Maggie Davis both adding hits for Mill Creek.

Duluth 4, Northview 3

DULUTH - Stephanie Ottimo was 2-for-4 and Kristin Colburn added a hit as Duluth beat Northview 4-3 in eight innings on Thursday.

Freshman Paula Manowski earned the win for the Wildcats (5-17, 2-7), pitching seven innings striking out three batters.

Central 21, Meadowcreek 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett improved to 12-8-1 overall and 5-1 in Region 8-AAAAA with a 21-0 win over Meadowcreek on Thursday.

Klair Wells was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Karla Figueroa had three hits and three RBIs and Ashley Razey finished with two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats.

North 14, Centennial 0

ROSWELL - Kristin Fullem was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Stephanie Olivier added two hits and scored two runs as No. 1-ranked North Gwinnett defeated Centennial 14-0 on Thursday.

Stacey Condra earned the win for the Bulldogs (18-3-1, 7-1) pitching seven innings, yielding only two hits.

Shiloh 4, Berkmar 2

LILBURN - Natalie Jones pitched a complete-game, striking out 10 batters, as Shiloh beat Berkmar 4-2 on Thursday.

Jones added three hits and two RBIs for the Generals (7-11-1, 2-4) and Danielle Tippins finished with a double and two RBIs in four at-bats.

Buford 2, Dawson Co. 0

DAWSONVILLE - The top-ranked Buford Wolves clinched a berth in the state sectionals with a 2-0 win over Dawson County on Thursday.

Shannon Wilson and Melissa Higginbotham both finished with two hits and a run scored and Jennifer Tuttle added a double in three at-bats for the Wolves (20-1, 8-0).

Jesse Groves struck out nine batters for Buford, earning her 12th win of the season.

Wesleyan 2, Union Co. 1

BLAIRSVILLE - Elise Whitney drove in Paige Hamlin for the game-winning RBI in the fifth inning helping Wesleyan edge Union County 2-1 on Thursday.

Katie Stutzman had two hits and Missy Genthert (8-4) stuck out 12 batters to earn the win for the Wolves (13-8-1, 5-3).

Hebron 5, Social Circle 2

DACULA - Nichole Smith pitched a complete-game striking out eight batters as Hebron Christian defeated Social Circle 5-2 on Thursday.

Britt Pecht went 3-for-4 and Mindy Montgomery added two hits for the Lions (8-4, 6-2).


Parkview beats Marietta, loses to McIntosh

MARIETTA - Parkview split matches on Thursday, defeating Marietta 25-18, 23-25, 25-16 and losing to McIntosh 15-25, 15-25.

Lee Dodson finished with 42 assists, three kills and an ace, Maggie Bean had 14 digs, 11 kills, three blocks and three aces and Caroline Dean added five kills, four digs, four assists and a block for the Panthers (17-12, 3-1).

GAC earns two wins

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Villa Rica 25-19, 25-12 and Pace Academy 25-20, 25-21 on Thursday.

Kristie Howard had 23 assists and 21 digs for the Spartans (21-6, 0-1), Morgan Massey had 17 digs and four aces, Jennifer Godleski had 13 kills and Caroline Germany finished with 11 kills for GAC.

Peachtree Ridge loses two

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge was defeated by Brookwood 25-13, 25-17 and by Shiloh 25-11, 26-24 on Thursday.

Amanda Kerr had 15 digs, nine kills and seven aces, Katie Kjerrumgaard had 10 digs and Jasmine Johnson finished with six kills for the Lions.

South drops two matches

DULUTH - South Gwinnett was defeated 26-24, 25-21, 25-15 by Norcross and 25-21, 25-15 by Duluth on Thursday.

In the first match, Amy McEachin had four kills and three aces for the Comets and Jenny Hester added three aces.

Neoya Zaysteu had four kills, three aces and three assists for South in the second match and Brianna Gallup added four aces and one kill.
