Prep Roundup: Comets remain perfect in region with 3-1 win

SNELLVILLE - South Gwinnett (12-8, 5-0) remained undefeated in Region 8-AAAAA by defeating Grayson 3-1 Tuesday night.

Pitcher Sasha Philpot threw a complete game, notching six strikeouts, two walks and allowing only four hits. Mandy Weir was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run while Sam Russo was also 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Liza Rackett was 2-for-3 with a run for the Comets.


Mill Creek 15,

Centennial 0

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek (16-4, 6-2) defeated Centennial Tuesday in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule.

Winning pitcher Katy Hackett was aided by leading hitter Lindsay Anderson, who had two RBIs, and Dez Franklin, who was 3-for-3 with a double. A.D. Samaniego pitched in with a hit and two RBIs while Amberlie Saxton recorded two hits, a triple and three RBIs.

Shiloh 16, Meadowcreek 0

SNELLVLLE - In a game shortened to three innings, Shiloh defeated Meadowcreek 16-0 Tuesday night.

Danielle Tippins threw a no-hitter to bring the Generals record to 16-11-1 overall and 1-4 in Region 8-AAAAA. Tippins helped her cause by going 2-for-2 at the plate with teammate Nicole Delbosque going 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.

Central 7, Parkview 1

LAWRENCEVILLE - Lacy Reck (9-2) pitched all seven innings, recording eight strikeouts and allowing just one run to help Central Gwinnett to a 7-1 win over Parkview Tuesday night.

Jessica Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs while Ashley Razey was also 2-for-4 with one run and an RBI. Karli Figueroa recorded two hits, two stolen bases and one RBI for the Black Knights.

Dacula 5, Norcross 2

NORCROSS - Dacula defeated Norcross 5-2 on Tuesday to bring its record to 15-5-1 overall and 5-3 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Winning pitcher Alanna Hadley recorded 16 strikeouts while giving up only four hits. Hadley also contributed at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Adele Voigt was 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and Chelsea Garnet was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Norcross fell to 6-17 overall and 3-6 in the region. Kasey Rutkowski and Nina Iduate were both 1-for-3 and teammate Allison Klibanoff was 2-for-4.

Collins Hill 9,

South Forsyth 0

CUMMING - Collins Hill scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth on its way to a 9-0 victory over South Forsyth Tuesday night.

Sam Peters started the scoring in the top of the second after she walked and stole second and third. She was driven in on a single by Shelly Jenkins (2-for-4). Kara Pollock (3-for-4) and Peters both recorded RBIs in the fifth, with Jenkins and Tamara Perkins (2-for-3) recording two RBIs.

Brookwood 7, Berkmar 2

LILBURN - Brookwood starter Karla Alt struck out 12 Patriots Tuesday night as the Broncos topped Berkmar 7-2. Alt allowed just one earned run over seven innings to improve her record to 11-7.

Kacie Shields went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and two runs for Bookwood (13-7-1, 4-1) while Alex Erisman was 2-for-2 with a run.

Hebron 7, Jefferson 5

ATLANTA - Hebron handed Jefferson its first loss in Region 8-A play on Tuesday by defeating the Dragons 7-5.

Kayla Lawson recorded two hits and two RBIs while Meredith Montgomery was 2-for-3. Nichole Smith pitched six innings for Hebron, with Rachel Duvall coming in to pick up the last three outs.


North sweeps Duluth and Peachtree Ridge

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett ran its record to 19-13 by defeating Duluth (25-17, 25-16) and Peachtree Ridge (25-21, 25-16) Tuesday night.

Staci Carnell recorded 11 kills while Jolie Efezokae had 12 and Valerie Bondura notched seven kills.

Peachtree Ridge defeated Duluth (25-14, 25-13), but fell to North Gwinnett (25-22, 25-16). Amanda Kerr and Lindsay Ajala led the team in kills, with Sarah Bernard and Joy Choi leading in assists with six and seven respectively. Ajala also led the Lions in blocks and Kristen Mitchell led in digs.

Central sweeps Shiloh, Brookwood

SNELLVILLE - Central Gwinnett defeated Shiloh (25-17, 25-18) and Brookwood (25-19, 29-27) Tuesday night to bring its record to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in the area.

Amber Kirkpatrick had 21 kills, four blocks and one assist while teammate Karen Green had 13 kills, two assists and two blocks. Sisters Maida and Aida Smajic recorded 30 digs and 31 assists respectively.

Grayson beats Salem,

Rockdale, Meadowcreek

NORCROSS - Grayson defeated host Meadowcreek (25-21, 26-24), Rockdale (25-12, 25-10) and Grayson (25-19, 33-31) Tuesday night.

Brittany Lewis recorded 26 kills and six aces while Stefanie Cash had 29 assists.

Parkview tops Berkmar, South

LILBURN - Jessica Geiger had 14 kills, seven aces and three digs to lead Parkview in wins over Berkmar (25-17, 25-12) and South Gwinnett (25-18, 25-14) Tuesday night.

Marissa Hicks added nine kills and four aces for Parkview while Maggie Bean had six kills and Karie Hayden finished with five digs and three aces.

Berkmar rebounded to defeat South Gwinnett 25-22, 25-16. Alex King and Whitley Witherspoon both had four kills for the Patriots.

Killian Hill tops

Olde Suwanee

LILBURN - Killian Hill defeated Olde Suwanee Tuesday night (25-19, 25-20, 25-23). The win brings Killian Hill's record to 6-2.

Allyson Trine had 10 kills and two aces while teammate Lauren McMahan posted 11 kills and five aces. Keeley Passman recorded seven aces.
