Every taxpayer and homeowner in the United States has a vested interest in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Regardless of who pays for the damage, Americans who pay taxes and who own property can expect to feel the effect.

The last place I want to be is at the dentist; until I witnessed 18 senators (21 if you count those who ''introduced'' John Roberts at his Supreme Court confirmation hearing) posture for the cameras and special interest groups. The dentist is looking better. At least he has painkillers. There is nothing to dull the pain of pontificating senators.

Hurricane Katrina how to help

The Project Relief Benefit Concert will raise money and bring awareness to the problems faced by disabled evacuees. The concert, running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Mall of Georgia, will feature live music, sports stars and celebrities. Info: 678-377-0929. The City of Suwanee and Suwanee Day volunteers will collect donations for the American Red Cross at the festival information booth at this year's festival, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Suwanee Town Center Park.
