Prep roundup: Dacula's Garrett delivers big hit

DACULA - Chelsea Garrett hit the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Catty Colvin, as Dacula edged Mill Creek 1-0 on Thursday.

The Falcons' Alanna Hadley out-dueled the Hawks' Bethany Ullrich to earn the victory. Hadley yielded only three hits in seven innings and struck out six batters for Dacula (13-2-1, 3-0).

Ullrich allowed just four hits and induced nine ground balls right back to her to record outs.

Courtney Cooper and Maggie Davis both had hits for Mill Creek (13-4, 3-2).

SOFTBALL

Central 10, Berkmar 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - Lacy Reck pitched a no-hitter, striking out 12 batters as Central Gwinnett defeated Berkmar 10-0 in six innings on Thursday.

Jessica Davis was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Stephanie Peet had two hits and scored a run with Karla Figueroa adding a triple and two RBIs for the Black Knights (9-7-1, 2-0).

South 3, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE - Sasha Philpot pitched a complete game, yielding two hits and striking out five batters as South Gwinnett downed Shiloh 3-1 on Thursday.

Brittany Sorrells was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Comets, whose record is now 7-5 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Peachtree Ridge 9,

Northview 0

SUWANEE - Jackie Samuels struck out 11 batters, earning her eighth shutout of the season, as Peachtree Ridge beat Northview 14-4 on Thursday.

Chelsea Parrish paced the Lions offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Natasha Willemse was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Rhea Taylor added two hits and Kayla Miller finished with a double and an RBI for Peachtree Ridge (14-4, 4-1).

North Gwinnett 10,

Norcross 2

NORCROSS - North Gwinnett improved to 15-2-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAA with a 10-2 victory over Norcross on Thursday.

Jessica Batten pitched five innings, striking out eight batter to earn the win. Brianna Hesson led a balanced attack for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Katie Fuller finished with three hits, Christie Thompson had two hits and two runs scored and Emily Whitaker added a triple and three RBIs for North.

Tiffany Jones was 2-for-3 with a double for the Blue Devils (5-9, 3-4), and Holly Bostick added a hit in three at-bats.

Parkview 15,

Meadowcreek 0

LILBURN - Kelly Croxton pitched a perfect game, striking out seven batters in four innings as Parkview beat Meadowcreek 15-0 on Thursday. Kim Stercay was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Panthers (11-5, 1-1), Regina Purvis had two hits and an RBI and Katie Kenady added a double and two RBIs for Parkview.

Providence 8, Union Co. 6

BLAIRSVILLE - Carli West was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored and Emily Tuttle added two hits in four at-bats as Providence defeated Union County 8-6 on Thursday. Julie Jordan finished with a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Stars (10-9, 3-0). Hannah Reiswig earned the win for Providence.

Buford 10, Rabun County 4

BUFORD - Melissa Higginbotham pitched a complete game, striking out six batters in leading Buford to a 10-4 victory over Rabun County on Thursday.

Jesse Groves was 3-for-5 with a home run for the Wolves (16-1, 4-0). Shannon Wilson went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases and Kelly Tucker finished with a hit, three runs scored and an RBI for Buford.

Hebron 9, Towns County 1

DACULA - Nichole Smith struck out nine batters in a complete-game effort as Hebron Christian defeated Towns County 9-1 on Thursday.

Rachael Duval was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lions (5-3, 4-1).

Central downs

Apalachee, Chestatee

WINDER - Central Gwinnett won two matches on Thursday. The Black Knights defeated Apalachee 25-12, 25-18 and Chestatee 25-11, 25-8.

Amber Kirkpatrick had 10 kills, five blocks and two aces, Taiwo Adeshigbin added 10 kills, five blocks and two aces and Ida Smajic finished with 28 assists for Central Gwinnett (8-6, 0-1).

Brookwood defeats

Chattahoochee, Berkmar

NORCROSS - Brookwood earned two wins on Thursday, defeating Chattahoochee 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 and Berkmar 25-6, 25-11.

Paige Ivey had 13 kills, Paige Slusser finished with 10 digs, Kalin DeMarrais added nine kills and seven digs and Leah Kitchen chipped in with 18 assists and five aces for the Broncos (14-3).

Dacula splits at Cobb County Tournament

MARIETTA - Dacula defeated Lakeside 25-16, 25-20 but lost to Marietta 21-25, 15-25 at the East West Tournament on Thursday.

Rose Corneille had 34 assists and three digs for the Falcons (12-8). Lindsey Weider finished with 35 digs and two kills, Rachel Dyer had with 21 digs and 14 kills, and Abbie Daniel ended with eight kills, four assists and one block for Dacula.

North earns two wins

SUWANEE - North Gwinnett defeated Flowery Branch 25-15, 20-25, 25-22 and Grayson 22-25, 25-8, 25-21 on Thursday.

Jolie Efezokhae finished with 18 kills for the Bulldogs and Kristen Green added 15 kills.

Wesleyan beats Northview, loses to Marist

NORCROSS - Wesleyan split a pair of matches at home on Thursday.

The Wolves defeated Northview 28-26, 25-17 but lost to Marist 23-25, 25-16, 16-25.

Nicole Fenner finished with 20 kills and 15 digs for Wesleyan (18-4), Betsy Smith had 16 kills and 16 digs and Katie Brown added 13 digs and four aces.
