Prep Roundup: Buford's Groves hurls one-hitter in 2-0 win

BUFORD - Buford pitcher Jesse Groves came within two outs of a perfect game as the Wolves blanked Lumpkin County 2-0 Tuesday night.

Groves (8-1) allowed just one hit with 12 strikeouts while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Shannon Wilson was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases while Kelly Tucker went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Buford improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-AA.

SOFTBALL

GAC 3, Union Co. 0

NORCROSS - Jessica Coan allowed one hit and struck out 15 as Greater Atlanta Christian blanked Union County 3-0 Tuesday night.

Coan, Kinsey Davis and Jamey Elrod each had one RBI as GAC improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-AA.

North 7, South Forsyth 1

SUWANEE - Emily Whitaker went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI on Tuesday night, helping North Gwinnett top South Forsyth 7-1 in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Brianna Hesson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Stacey Condra added two hits and a run for North (14-2, 3-0). Jessica Batten (7-0) allowed one unearned run over seven innings with nine strikeouts and a walk.

Collins Hill 9, Northview 0

DULUTH - Cara Pollock recorded a no-hitter to lead Collins Hill over Northview 9-0 on Tuesday. Pollock struck out seven as Collins Hill improved to 9-2-1 overall and 3-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Tamara Perkins and Michelle Brodrick scored on a hit by Rebecca Roles while Sam Peters drove in Jessica Martin and Ellen Black. Martin and Peters each went 2-for-3 while Black and Munson were

2-for-5.

Mill Creek 4, Norcross 0

HOSCHTON - Norcross fell to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in Region 7-AAAAA with a 4-0 loss to Mill Creek on Tuesday night.

Mill Creek starter Katy Hackett struck out 14 and allowed four hits over seven innings. Maggie Davis doubled and tripled and drove in two runs and Kristen Kozma had a double and an RBI for the Hawks (13-3, 3-1).

Blue Devils pitcher Jamie Sylvester (5-6) was helped offensively by Malika Wadley, Nina Iduate, Katie Bostick and Allison Klibanoff, who were each 1-for-3.

Wesleyan 2, Banks Co. 0

HOMER - Wesleyan pitcher Missy Genthert (6-2) recorded 12 strikeouts to lead Wesleyan (9-5-1) over Banks County 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Genthert allowed only two hits while teammates Ali Bagdey and Whitney Warren both recorded three hits with Warren stealing three bases.

VOLLEYBALL

Brookwood sweeps South and Meadowcreek

SNELLVILLE - Brookwood recorded a pair of sweeps Tuesday night by defeating Meadowcreek 25-19, 25-11 and South Gwinnett 25-14, 25-16 at South Gwinnett High School.

Paige Ivey led Brookwood (12-3, 2-0) with 11 digs and nine kills while Kalin DeMarrais had nine kills and served six aces.

South rebounded against Meadowcreek to defeat the Mustangs 14-25, 25-16, 25-20. Jenny Hester served three aces while Nelya Zaystev had four kills. Amy McEachin also had three blocks in the match against Brookwood while Sally Williams added three kills.

Collins Hill rolls past

Centennial, Roswell

ROSWELL - Collins Hill defeated Centennial 25-10, 25-13 and Roswell 25-18, 26-24 on Tuesday. The win brought the Eagles record to 16-4.

Parkview tops

Campbell and Central

LILBURN - Parkview notched a pair of wins Tuesday night with defeats of Campbell (25-16, 25-10) and Central Gwinnett (25-23, 20-25, 25-23) at Parkview High School.

Jessica Geiger led Parkview (10-4, 1-0) with 22 kills, four blocks and seven digs while Jamie Quinones added five digs. Courtney Kelly delivered 11 assists and two aces while Samantha Rappopold had four kills and three aces.

GAC falls to Lakeview

Academy and Mill Creek

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian dropped two matches Tuesday night against Lakeview Academy (13-25, 14-25) and Mill Creek (25-23, 18-25, 25-14), dropping its record to 13-5. Jennifer Godleski recorded 10 kills and 23 digs.

Wesleyan sweeps Woodward Academy and McIntosh

COLLEGE PARK - Wesleyan defeated McIntosh (25-22, 27-25) and Woodward Academy (20-25, 25-19, 25-21) Tuesday night.

The Wolves were led offensively by Nicole Fenner and Betsy Smith with 25 and 16 kills, respectively. Fenner and Smith also recorded 20 and 17 digs apiece while Paige Cain added 12 kills and 14 digs and Caiti Troyer totaled 57 assists.

Providence doubles up

Monroe and Duluth

DULUTH - Providence defeated Monroe 25-18, 25-20 on Tuesday. Maryellen Hudson tallied eight aces and one kill while teammate Lindsay Duryea recorded two aces and three kills.

In the second game, the Stars defeated Duluth 25-7, 25-11, led by Kristi Garland's three aces, four blocks and two kills.

HAMPTON - Chris Williams scored two goals and George Campian added one as Killian Hill defeated Bible Baptist 3-1 on Tuesday. Killian Hill improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in GCAA play.
