Publix employee fends off kidnappers

•LAWRENCEVILLE - An employee narrowly escaped being kidnapped Tuesday from a Publix store at 1030 Old Peachtree Road, according to a police report.

The 19-year-old woman was working in the customer service area about 9:30 p.m. when a man approached saying he was lost. The man said he needed to get to the Arena at Gwinnett Center for a concert.

The employee walked with the man into the breezeway to give him directions. He then grabbed her from behind, picked her up and carried her outside toward a gray or tan Nissan Frontier driven by a second suspect, the report said.

The woman kept kicking and moving around until the suspect finally let her go, the report said. He said, "I was just joking," and fled in the truck.

The man was described as white, clean-shaven and wearing a brown jacket.

Men mugged at apartment complex

•NORCROSS - Two men were mugged and tied with belts Tuesday at Harbin Woods Apartments off Singleton Road.

A Lilburn man told police he was stopped at a traffic light on Singleton and Harbins roads at 11:15 p.m. when he was approached by a black man dressed in all black clothing, according to a police report.

The man pointed a gun at the driver and ordered him to open the passenger door so he could get in, the report said. He then made the victim drive to Harbin Woods apartments and park next to a building.

The victim was forced to get out of the car, and his wallet and keys were stolen. Two other suspects joined the gunman in holding up a second passer-by. The trio of robbers forced both men into the passer-by's apartment, where they tied them up with belts before fleeing on foot, the report said.
