Area offers plenty of spook-tacular events for Halloween

Looking for fun this Halloween weekend? Consider this your guide to many of the spook-tacular events going on around the county.

•Stone Mountain Park's third annual Pumpkin Festival will take place through Sunday. The festival will be held in the 1870s town of Crossroads. Activities include John Deere pumpkin hauling, live entertainment, pumpkin carving demonstrations and a pumpkin pie-eating contest. Admission is included in the park's one-day all attractions pass. •Stone Mountain Park's 20th annual "A Tour of Southern Ghosts" will run through Monday. Professional storytellers spin their tales of famous and not-so-famous Southern ghosts. The first tour begins at 7 p.m. each night, with a new 45-minute tour leaving every 10 minutes. The box office closes at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. •The Southeastern Railway Museum will hold its second annual Haunted Train event from 7 to 11 p.m. today and Saturday. The Haunted Train will feature haunting in different coaches and the Railway Post Office car, as well as an evening hayride aboard the museum's restored caboose train. Refreshments will be available. •Netherworld Haunted House is back with three new fear-packed haunts. The haunted house runs every night through Halloween. The hours are 7 to 11 p.m. most nights and 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays in October. Netherworld is located in the Georgia Antique & Design Center, 6624 Dawson Blvd., Norcross. •Snellville's new haunted house "The Blood Shed," hosted by the City of Snellville Police Department, runs from 7 p.m. to midnight daily until Halloween. The haunted house is set inside the Fountain Square shopping center. Tickets are $10 or $15 for re-entry privileges. Children under 12 will not be admitted without adult supervision. •Books-a-Million at Discover Mills Mall will hold "Fright Night," a trick or treating event, tonight. The event will feature storyteller and performer Rob Cleveland telling scary stories for kids ages 7 to 12. Storytelling sessions will begin at 7 and 7:30 p.m. Call 678-847-4115.

•The Aurora Theatre will present a Monster Mash Bash - Halloween Cabaret at 8 p.m. today and Saturday. The event will feature the best of Broadway's darker side, including selections from "Phantom of the Opera" and "Rocky Horror Picture Show." Tickets are $15 to $20. •Aurora Theatre's Lawrenceville Ghost Tours, featuring costumed guides, highlight stories of the strange and supernatural. The 90-minute tours leave at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. •Pinckneyville Community Center will host its annual Hairy Halloween costume contest from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Pet owners are required to dress up with their pets for the event, which includes games, pictures and contests. The center is located on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross.

•Mall of Georgia, 3333 Buford Drive in Buford, will hold a Kidgits Club Halloween costume contest from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 678-482-8788.

•The Flowery Branch 5K "Boo Run" will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday. The race starts at the old train depot, 5600 Main St. in Flowery Branch. Register online at www.active.com for $15 or register the day of the race for $20. Awards will be given by age group for the top three positions. •The City of Suwanee will present its annual Trek or Treat event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Suwanee Creek Park. Activities will include bobbing for apples, a mini-pumpkin hunt, dangling doughnut challenge, Frisbee golf and trek or treating along the Suwanee Creek Greenway. •Snellville's annual Fall Festival is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at T.W. Briscoe Park. The festival is sponsored by Emory Eastside Medical Center and activities will include a hay ride, costume contest, carnival games, pony rides and moonwalks. Call 770-985-3535.

•Gwinnett Place Mall, 2100 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, will hold a Simon Kidgits Club "Really, Really, Really Big Halloween Party," hosted by Radio Disney, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
