LAWRENCEVILLE - A man tried to attack his wife with a knife and then got into a standoff with police Saturday in Wesley Place Apartments on Sweetwater Road, according to a police report.

Marco Aguilar-Lara, 33, allegedly got angry while he was talking on the phone and threw a beer can at his wife, striking her in the face. Aguilar-Lara then picked up a knife and came toward her, making a stabbing motion, the report said. He allegedly threw the knife at his wife but missed as she ran into their children's room, woke them up and escaped out the window.

The officers sprayed Aguilar-Lara with pepper spray and struck him several times with a baton to little effect. Finally he dropped the knife when threatened with a Taser.

500 gallons of gas leak into storm drain

NORCROSS - About 500 gallons of gasoline leaked from a fuel tanker and into a nearby storm drain at the QuikTrip Gas Station off Peachtree Parkway Tuesday evening.

The leak, which originated from a valve on the bottom rear portion of the tanker, was contained to a dry creek bed and was stopped by firefighters, said Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department. Between 10 and 15 people were evacuated from the gas station and a strip mall located south of the QuikTrip. No roadways were closed, and no injuries were reported, Rutledge said.
