WINDER - More than 50 exhibitors will show their wares at an expo this weekend designed to encourage people to shop in Barrow County.
The county's Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with an extra viewing period for Chamber members from 5 to 7 tonight.
Debi Kraus, the Chamber's vice president of membership services, said she thought attendees would be surprised by some of the offerings at the Business Expo, which takes place every other year.
"You get to see what businesses are available here," Kraus said. "I had no idea some of them existed."
Some of the exhibitors at the county's Leisure Services building include the county flight school, banks, a custom countertop manufacturer and a do-it-yourself pest control company. Kraus said the expo is not limited to businesses in downtown Winder or a particular area of the county, but span throughout Barrow.
The free event will feature booths as well as entertainment from the Apalachee High School marching band, a local dance studio and a fashion show. Akins Ford and Ouzts Chevrolet will also bring some of their vehicles to the expo, Kraus said.
"We want people to see what Barrow County has to offer," she said. "We want them shopping here first instead of going out of the county. They may not know what's available."
