The Gwinnett Gladiators released their completed training camp roster on Thursday and the team begins practice today at the Ice Forum in Duluth.
The Gladiators open camp with seven defensemen, 11 forwards and three goaltenders. Twelve of the 21 players also attended training camp in the American Hockey League. Returning players from last season include captain Cam Brown and assistant captain Rick Emmett. In addition, forward Chris Durno is here after going to camp with AHL Peoria and Jeff Campbell returns from AHL camp with Manitoba. Under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers, forward Brad Schell and defenseman Lane Manson were assigned to the Gladiators from AHL affiliate Chicago. Gwinnett's camp runs through Oct. 20 and the Gladiators open the season Oct. 21 against Charlotte at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Also on Thursday, the ECHL announced Texas voluntary suspension for 2005-06 season was approved after Hurricane Rita devastated the region last month. The Wildcatters reported to the board of governors that the Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas, will not be available due to continuing recovery efforts. The ECHL will release a revised playing schedule for 2005-06 today.
