BERKELEY LAKE - City council members voted to adopt an ordinance regulating septic system maintenance at Thursday night's meeting.
"This ordinance is to remind homeowners to perform required maintenance to their septic systems," said Walter Anderson, chairman of the ordinance committee. The ordinance provides guidelines for repair, inspection, maintenance and reporting as well as penalties for nonconformance. "This ordinance is the result of a lot of hard work by the ordinance committee, and they did a great job," Mayor Lois Salter said. Lakeshore drive safety Council member George Sipe urged other members of the council to set a date for a town hall meeting regarding safety on Lakeshore Drive. Issues concerning cyclists, motorists and pedestrians will be discussed, and solutions to the issues will be presented for public input at this meeting. Councilman Bernie Cohen said residents living on Lakeshore Drive should be able to review all proposed options in writing before such a meeting is held. The council agreed to schedule the meeting for February, and Salter asked that all council members review their calendars and be ready to set a date at the next council meeting in two weeks. Earth Day Earth Day in Berkeley Lake is Saturday. City residents can drop off items to discard between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.More like this story
