Prep roundup: Mill Creek advances in 7-AAAAA tournament with 1-0 win over South Forsyth

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek, the No. 2 seed, defeated South Forsyth 1-0 Tuesday night to advance in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament.

Winning pitcher Katy Hackett threw a complete-game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out nine while walking only one. Dez Franklin was 1-for-3 with a double while Maggie Davis and Erica Moore were both 1-for-3. Courtney Cooper finished the night 1-for-2 for Mill Creek.

Mill Creek (22-7-1) will play at home on Thursday against Collins Hill in the second round.


Grayson 3, Shiloh 2

LOGANVILLE - Mandi Burns threw nine innings and allowed two runs on three hits and struck out 15 to lead Grayson to a 3-2 victory over Shiloh on Tuesday night.

Amanda Hutcheson was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Amber Russell and Melissa Davis were both 1-for-1 with an RBI. The win brings the Rams' record to 17-11-1 overall and 5-2 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Wesleyan 3, St. Pius 2

NORCROSS - Wesleyan defeated St. Pius 3-2 Tuesday night in eight innings.

Winning pitcher Missy Genthert recorded 12 strikeouts. Amy Spignola hit a triple in the fourth that drove in a run and later scored on Katie Stutzman's RBI single. Meghan Brantley drove in the winning run in the eighth inning with an RBI


Providence 2,

Lumpkin Co. 0

LILBURN - Providence secured the No. 3 seed in Region 8-AA on Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout over Lumpkin County. The Stars will host East Hall on Thursday at 5 p.m. to open the Region 8-AA tournament.

Hannah Reiswig threw a complete-game shutout for the Stars (14-16, 5-4). Caitlin McDowell drove in Bre Thompson on a fielder's choice while Danielle Johnston's single plated Carli West.

Hebron 9, Towns Co. 1

HIAWASSEE - Syd Couch was 3-for-4 and Rachael Duval pitched seven strong innings as Hebron Christian beat host Towns County 9-1 on Tuesday in Region 8-A action.

The Lions improved to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the region.


Dacula cruises

past Duluth, Shiloh

DULUTH - Dacula improved to 23-12 overall on Tuesday with a pair of sweeps over Shiloh and Duluth.

Dacula swept Duluth 25-4, 25-12 to improve to 4-1 in Area 8-AAAAA. Rose Corneille had nine assists, nine digs and seven aces while Abby Daniel and Kelly Reonas each had four kills.

Corneille added 18 digs and seven assists in Dacula's 25-20, 28-26 sweep of Shiloh. Rachel Dyer added 10 kills and nine digs while Lindsey Weider finished with 15 digs.

Collins Hill defeats Mill Creek, Norcross

HOSCHTON - Collins Hill stayed undefeated and in first place in Area 8-AAAAA with wins over Mill Creek (23-25, 25-22, 25-10) and Norcross (25-22, 25-11) on Tuesday.

Katie Winschel and Raven Tirado had 15 and 11 kills respectively while Chelsea Profit added nine kills. Kelsey Foster recorded 36 assists and Samantha Lum added 16 digs to bring the Eagles record to 27-6.

Mill Creek handled Peachtree Ridge 25-9, 25-11. Megan Clayton had 21 saves on the night. Domonique Jackson recorded 21 kills and 15 digs while Ashley Vaughan led the Hawks in assists.

GAC rolls against

Providence, Berkmar

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian swept Providence (25-15, 25-16) and Berkmar (25-17, 25-14) on Tuesday night to improve to 27-7.

GAC leading hitter Ashley Agin recorded 17 kills and teammate D'Nay Daniels added 10 kills and 10 aces. Christie Howard had six aces and 28 assists for the Spartans.

Berkmar (4-17) salvaged a victory over Providence 25-13, 25-19. Kemah George served seven straight points while Whitley Witherspoon tallied five aces. Ashley Jackson had six digs on the night.

North Gwinnett splits with Alpharetta, North Forsyth

CUMMING - North Gwinnett (27-16) defeated North Forsyth (20-25, 25-16, 25-8) but fell to Alpharetta (25-20, 25-17) Tuesday night.

Jolie Efezokhae had 15 of the team's 42 kills, while Valerie Eondura successfully placed 98 percent of her serves.

Wesleyan cruises past Blessed Trinity, Oconee Co.

NORCROSS - Wesleyan (34-6) defeated Blessed Trinity (25-21, 21-25, 28-26) and Oconee County (25-16, 25-15) on Tuesday.

Betsy Smith totaled 31 kills and 17 digs and Paige Cain had 17 kills and 14 digs. Caiti Troyer recorded 62 assists and 18 digs on the night for the Wolves.

Killian Hill

defeats Philadelphia

LILBURN - Killian Hill (8-2) defeated Philadelphia Christian 25-15, 25-6, 25-10 Tuesday night.

Lauren McMahan recorded five aces and five kills while Caitlin Keefey had two aces and six kills. Lauren Whitley totaled five aces on the night.

Cherokee Christian 0

LILBURN - Nick Williams and Mac Hildebrand scored two goals each as Killian Hill Christian defeated Cherokee Christian 7-0 on Tuesday.

Chris Clute, Tyler Mills and Chris Niarchos scored one goal each as the Cougars improved to 10-2. Brandt Mill recorded the shutout in goal for Killian Hill.
