Berry soccer signs North's Hackett

North Gwinnett senior Shannon Hackett has signed a soccer scholarship with Berry College. A two-year All-County selection, Hackett had eight goals and a team-high 10 assists as a junior for the Bulldogs. She had 11 goals and nine assists as a sophomore.

Brookwood's Reid signs with Georgia State baseball

Brookwood pitcher Andy Reid has signed a baseball scholarship with Georgia State. He is the son of Jimmy and Jennifer Reid. The senior left-hander is a four-year member of the Broncos' baseball program, including three seasons with the varsity.

GFL donates more than $10,000 to Desire Street Ministries

The Gwinnett Football League collected $10,537 in donations for the Desire Street Ministries, a New Orleans-based organization that was affected by hurricane damage. Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, representing Desire Street, accepted the donation at last Saturday's GFL championship games.

Marlins unable to get stadium, pursue relocation

MIAMI - The Florida Marlins will look into relocation as early as the 2008 season, after years of unsuccessful attempts to secure a baseball-only stadium in downtown Miami.

Marlins president David Samson said Tuesday the team has received permission from the commissioner's office to investigate its options in other cities. Samson added owner Jeffrey Loria's primary intention is to keep the team in South Florida, but added that no deal will be struck for a ballpark in Miami.

Music City bowl taps ACC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Southeastern Conference's loss has become the Atlantic Coast Conference's gain.

Music City Bowl officials announced Tuesday that a team from the ACC will replace the SEC on Dec. 30, which will set up the only bowl game between teams from the ACC and Big Ten

conferences.
