BUFORD - A woman involved in an accident involving three tractor-trailers and a Toyota van was declared dead on arrival by authorities Saturday afternoon.
The woman was traveling south on Interstate 85 near Buford Drive at 3 p.m. when she lost control and crossed the median into oncoming traffic on I-85 northbound. She first collided into the side of a tractor-trailer, then into a Toyota van located directly behind the trailer. She then struck a second tractor-trailer traveling behind the Toyota van, which spun her car into the right-hand lane of I-85 north where it collided into a third tractor-trailer, said Officer Darren Moloney, Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman. Attempting to avoid a collision, a second vehicle traveling near the third tractor-trailer pulled over to the right-hand side of the roadway but was pinned against the guard rail by the third tractor-trailer. The unnamed occupants of the pinned car weren't transported to a medical facility, but two men traveling in the Toyota van were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center. Their injuries were not life threatening, Moloney said. Traffic was delayed for 21⁄2 hours. Gwinnett police were investigating the cause of the accident and notifying family before releasing the name of the deceased woman.More like this story
