Harold E. Steorts, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Friday, November 18, 2005. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 20, 2005 at Duluth First United Methodist Church with Dr. Coy Hinton officiating. Harold was born June 18, 1927 in Zainesville, Ohio to Hubert and Mattie Steorts. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1957 with a degree in Accounting. He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne for seven years and remained in the Army Reserve until retirement. Harold began his civilian career with Ernst and Ernst CPA firm and after three years, began what would be a twenty two year career with the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Upon retiring from the Office of Inspector General in 1982, he worked eight years with Regional CPA firm, Metcalf, Fricke and Zima. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janie; a son, Jeff Steorts and his wife, Michelle; a daughter, Betty Lacey; two grandsons, Jesse Steorts and Matthew Lacey; a granddaughter, Brittany Lacey; two brothers, Hubert Steorts, Jr. of New Port Richie, FL and Dennis Steorts of Abliene, KS. He is also survived by Janie's sister, Frances R. McMillan of Danville, VA; two nephews, Kirby McMillan and his wife, Adair of San Diego, CA; and Art McMillan of Raleigh, NC; a niece, Jane McMillan of Richmond, VA; and two great nephews, Rubin McMillan of Cincinnati, OH, and Rafe McMillan of San Diego, CA. Box 376, Shallotte, NC 28459. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 19 from 5-8 PM at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Duluth Chapel, 770-476-2535.
