Gwinnett Daily Post
The season started with 224 football and cheerleading teams in the Gwinnett Football League, but only the select few are still going for this weekend's season finale.
Sixteen youth teams from the GFL, the county's football feeder program, compete in the league's championship games on Saturday at Grayson High School. The players compete for titles in eight age divisions, ranging from 6- and 7-year-olds up to eighth-graders. Seven different youth organizations have teams in at least one age group final on Saturday. Mountain Park leads the way with four teams (all 10-and-under or younger) while Brookwood and Mill Creek are close with three teams each. This year's Eighth Grade, Division II championship game, slated for 3 p.m., will feature a monetary gift from the league to Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel's foundation. Wuerffel will be present to accept the donation. For more information on the GFL, go to www.gwinnettfootball.com. - From staff reportsMore like this story
